There are many, many things in life that truly make me happy. An incredible, out-of-this-world burger is one of those. Staying true to my fitness and nutrition background and knowing that most restaurant burgers pack an extra large punch of carbohydrates, fats, and calories, I tend to savor half of my burger (and usually fries!) and save the other half for the next day. While this is sometimes hard for me to do, I never regret getting to enjoy an amazing burger two days in a row!
I don’t think I would be lying when I say that I’ve tried a burger at almost every restaurant in St. Augustine. For this reason, I give you: The Five Best Burgers in St. Augustine…
- The Beachcomber’s Shipwreck Burger: Nothing says “good ole’ St. Augustine burger” like a perfectly grilled hamburger patty with a mountain of local, fried shrimp and tartar sauce on top of it. This is not your average look-pretty-while-you-eat-it burger. Be prepared to get down and dirty with this one! Added perk: not only is this burger insanely delicious, but it can be enjoyed directly on the ocean! Win-win!
- Jim’s Place Mushroom Swiss Burger: This gem of a burger will take you to Ekton and it is absolutely worth the trip. Warm, oozy swiss cheese, steamy and perfectly sautéed mushrooms on a perfectly char-grilled burger. I’ve never had another burger quite like it!
- Gas Full Service Restaurant’s Single Cruiser: If customization and creative burger topping combinations are your thing, this is, hands down, the best burger out there. Whether you like fried green tomatoes on your burger or you’re a cheeseburger purist, the sky is the limit for the mouth-watering options that Gas will pile high atop your burger!
- The Floridian’s Dixie Burger: Add what you want to make this burger your own amazing creation (I love the beef, sautéed onions and peppers and salsa combination myself! Comprised of local, Cartwheel Ranch beef (I love supporting local farmers!!) or the option of a black been or sweet potato burger—the Dixie burger can meet all of your vegan, vegetarian, Paleo, gluten-free, or other special dietary needs!
- Half Pound Ice Plant Burger: There is just something about the combination of the buttery bun, the homemade bacon-chive aioli and the perfectly grilled grass-fed (MAJOR extra points for being grass-fed!) beef. This is the hardest place for me to split my burger in two! I can’t get enough of this burger!
