Halloween is just around the corner, and The Red Sable Art Store & Gallery is more than ready. This year, the recently relocated art shop is hosting a skeleton-themed art show, featuring works by Jacksonville artist Marie Marfia. The art opening coincides with the store’s Day of the Dead Festival, beginning at 6 p.m. October 30.

Three collections of Marfia’s work will be on display. Work includes her “Greetings from St. Augustine” paintings, depicting campy skeleton tourists capering on and around Old City landmarks. The “Old Dead Masters” Series are bare-bone homages to classical art works, and the “Skelly Dinner” series showcases skeletal dancers on the beach. The skeletons started off as part of her 100 Belly Dancers series, and since then, she says that the portraits have “taken on a life of their own.”
Marie Marfia lives and works in Jacksonville. She received her BFA from Kendall College Art and Design, and is a member of several artist organizations, including the First Coast Pastel Society, Local Artists Coming Together, and the Art League of Jacksonville.
In addition to featuring Marfia’s work, the festival presents the work of other artists, along with work, food, face-painters and trick-or-treating from vendor to vendor. Original art work, prints and cards will be available for sale at the show.
The event takes place from 6 to 9 p.m. on October 30. Admissions is free. The Red Sable is located on 1333 Old Dixie Hwy in Suite 5. For more information, call 904-217-8426, or visit www.theredsable.com.
