School is out across St John’s County and Summer Breakspot, organized by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services is here to help ensure that children around the state of Florida have access to breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks during the summer recess. Many children in St Johns County do not have access to reliable food sources either because of family or financial hardship and during the summer this access to meals is heightened because school is out of session. For no cost and application, Summer Breakspot offers children under the ages of 18 under financial or familial hardships with servings of dairy, vegetables, fruits, and grains. By partnering with local nonprofits and receiving a reimbursement from the USDA, Summer Breakspot truly offers children an opportunity to not go hungry during a time of year where schools are not able to provide those meals.
