I love getting a workout in during an outing that’s fun for the kids, and one of my favorite ways to do that is running the Francis & Mary Usina, or Vilano, Bridge. This run is perfect for a single or double stroller, and has lots of exciting things for the kids to see to keep them entertained.
There’s a parking area on the Vilano side. As you walk toward the bridge, point out the boardwalk that goes underneath and tell the kids you will go exploring there at the end of your run.
The bridge is a mile long and includes serious inclines, so it’s a great workout (2 miles total). My favorite part is all the great things you can point out to the kids: different types of boats, major downtown landmarks, and wildlife. My four-year-old is always on dolphin patrol and goes crazy when she spots them playing near the boat decks.
It’s the perfect cool down for you and reward for little running buddies.
