Residents looking for discounted vehicles, heavy equipment, trailers, and government surplus items will soon have the opportunity to bid on a wide variety of assets during the upcoming St. Johns County Surplus Auction, scheduled for June 20 in St. Augustine.
Hosted by Great Expectations Auction & Estate Services on behalf of St. Johns County, the live public auction will feature retired county vehicles, construction equipment, trailers, utility vehicles, office equipment, and other surplus property that is no longer needed by local government departments. County officials say proceeds from the auction will return to the County’s General Fund, helping maximize the value of public assets while generating revenue for taxpayers.
The auction will take place at 2416 Dobbs Road in St. Augustine, with gates opening for preview at 7 a.m. and bidding beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday, June 20. An early preview day is also scheduled for June 19 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., allowing potential buyers to inspect vehicles and equipment before placing bids.
According to auction organizers, all items will be sold to the highest bidder with no reserves or minimum bids, creating opportunities for buyers to purchase vehicles and equipment below traditional retail prices. The auction is free and open to the public, and attendees may bring mechanics, diagnostic tools, and inspection equipment during preview periods to evaluate potential purchases.
Among the featured surplus items are retired ambulances, pickup trucks, fire apparatus, utility vehicles, construction equipment, trailers, and other government-owned assets. Recent auction listings have included CAT equipment, Ford F-150 trucks, Kawasaki utility vehicles, and emergency response vehicles previously used by county departments.
County leaders say surplus auctions play an important role in asset management by extending the useful life of equipment while creating opportunities for businesses, contractors, collectors, and residents to acquire vehicles and machinery at competitive prices. St. Johns County typically conducts surplus auctions once or twice each year after commissioners approve items for disposal.
Buyers should be aware that all items are sold as-is, with no warranties expressed or implied. A 15% buyer’s premium applies to purchases, along with applicable sales tax and vehicle processing fees. Payment must be made on the day of the auction. Organizers encourage bidders to carefully inspect all equipment before participating.
Residents interested in viewing available inventory, auction terms, and registration details can visit the Great Expectations Auction website prior to the event. With everything from work trucks to specialty equipment headed to the auction block, the June surplus sale is expected to attract contractors, vehicle enthusiasts, small business owners, and bargain hunters from across Northeast Florida.
