The St. Augustine Distillery has quite quickly become a landmark and a staple in the city’s alcoholic pursuits. We all know and love their vodka, gin, and rum, but once again it’s more than just a local opinion. In May, the Distillery’s Pot Distilled Rum and New World Gin both brought home gold medals from the 2016 Los Angeles International Spirits Competition (LAISC) in Pomona, California.
“Both our gin and rum were given scores of 90 points, which is a personal best for us and a distinguished industry score,” said Philip McDaniel, CEO and co-founder of St. Augustine Distillery. “We were up against some of the top spirits in the world, and took home two additional gold medals to add to our collection. Over the past two years, we’ve medaled in every competition that we’ve entered.”
Since its genesis in 2007, the Los Angeles International Spirits Competition has set the standard for the distilled beverage industry. May’s competition boasted over 400 spirits created by nearly 150 manufacturers from 29 countries. The spirits were judged by 20 industry experts in a blind taste test and gold, silver, and bronze medals are awarded via a points system.
“We are producing world class spirits using regional agriculture in a sustainable and responsible way,” said McDaniel. “With our bourbon set for a fall release, which was the first bourbon whiskey in Florida to be put into barrel for aging since Prohibition, St. Augustine Distillery is proud to bring Florida spirits to the forefront of artisanal distillation.”
