Relay for Life of North St. Johns County Gets their Gatsby On in October

By the time you read this, it’ll be September. The beginning of autumn. The cold air slowly starts creeping in, chilling the days slowly but ever so surely. It marks the beginning of the end of the year. One thing that can’t be chilled, one thing that can’t end is hope itself. And hope is in abundance as the Relay for Life of North St Johns County continues onward. In the latest leadership meeting, a lot of exciting developments have occurred.

Most interestingly, the Relay for Life has partnered for an event with a local St. Augustine Brewery, Prohibition Kitchen, for an exciting night on the 10th of October. Join the event and wear your best Gatsby gear for a great night full of great food and drinks and people. The event will be an auction for a plethora of amazing items, all of which YOU can win! There will even be live music from To Satchmo with Love. So, join the party by grabbing a ticket, friends, and a table. All of the proceeds from the night will go directly to American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life.

Beyond that, an amazing $3,692.75 has been raised so far, prompting the team to bump the goal from $100,000 to $120,000. This year, the stakes are higher and the Relay for Life team needs your help to get up to the goal.

The Relay theme of the year is Dr. Suess, and while this article would be written in his style, what one needs to know is that this year’s Relay theme is: “A Hope is a HOPE no matter how Small.” And that could not be any truer, because the past successes and all the future successes have hinged on the fact that someone hopes for a future without cancer.

Therefore, we need the help of everyone one in the community to make this the grand slam success the event usually is. To help, you can register on RelayForLife.org/NSTJfl. Registering is a breeze with options to create a team, to join a team, or to make a donation.

The first meeting will be held on the 13th of September at Allen D. Nease High School for event leadership members, but it is open to anyone. If you want to come and help by joining the committee, or you want help signing up your team, or you already have money raised to turn in, feel free to come over.

As always, the Relay for Life would like to thank Northrup Grumman has been an amazing help in sponsoring the event, supporting the event significantly. Save the date for the first official kickoff for all teams on the 11 th of October. Remember to mark your calendar for Relay For Life of North St Johns County at Allen D. Nease High
School on the 27th of April.
