The pandemic has affected everybody, especially our seniors. Pie in the Sky has been working diligently to ensure their seniors are well taken care of through these unprecedented times. The nonprofit organization has gathered volunteers, hosted fundraisers, partnered with local restaurants, and is now excited to announce its new partnership with the local medical office, Island Doctors. Island Doctors recently donated over $7,000 to Pie in the Sky, which will help fund produce costs for seniors throughout the spring season.
“We are thrilled to renew our partnership with Island Doctors,” said Pie in the Sky Executive Director, Malea Guiriba. “Their support during COVID has allowed us to continue purchasing high-quality produce at the quantity that our seniors need. We are so grateful to Island Doctors for their support of Pie and our seniors.”
Island Doctors has a long-standing history with Pie in the Sky. Unfortunately, it is not uncommon for seniors to forego purchasing food and medication due to the high costs. With this donation, Island Doctors is helping to provide low-income seniors in need with healthy food in addition to medical care.
“We not only want to ensure our seniors are fed, but we hope to engage the community on health education as well,” explained Island Doctors’ Director of Marketing and Advertising, Marcus Williams. “Due to the pandemic, many people are not going to the doctor as often as they should. We want to bring forward this information when we can. This is more than a donation. We also provide cookbooks, healthy-snack suggestions, information on heart disease prevention, face masks, hand sanitizer, and much more. We hope to continue partnering with Pie in the Sky in the future to continue taking care of our seniors.”
