PechaKucha, a Japanese term for “chit chat,” is a global, innovative storytelling movement that brings together local community members and a lineup of local speakers to open up the conversation on a variety of topics. Since 2013, the St. Augustine chapter has been established to bring awareness and support the community in an intellectually positive and nourishing manner. By centering their events around thought-provoking topics, they encourage the conversations to be carried into day-to-day life with the goal of inspiring the community in a nourishing manner.
In an ever-moving world that seems to constantly beckon us to go here, do this, and change that with no time to take a breath, the question “When was the last time you truly allowed yourself to pause?” inevitably arises.
Saturday, May 30th, 2026, they will host PechaKucha Night St. Augustine Volume 27, gathering around the simple yet increasingly important and powerful initiative: “Slow Down.” This free event will be held at The Venue in the heart of quiet, historic Hastings, an area that truly embodies the intentional, grassroots spirit of the night’s theme.
Take a breath, clear your Saturday night, slow down, and let the conversation unravel. Doors will open at 6:00pm, inviting guests to come in, grab a seat, and catch up with neighbors and local creators before the presentations begin. Hastings Coffee Co. is providing a spread of complementary food and drinks for guests to enjoy throughout the event. When the lights begin to dim, the speakers will begin taking the stage at 7:00 pm.
The lineup is filled with a variety of local speakers who will bend the “Slow Down” theme in surprising directions. “These short speeches are like snack-sized bites of information,” explains Angie Ullmann, one of the event organizers. From more personal to information and research-driven talks, this refreshing theme will usher speakers to explore the vitality of reconnecting with what’s most important, the beauty in everyday moments, the slower pace of small-town life, and the patience creativity requires.
