If you’re looking for a reason to get out of town and into something a little more flavorful this spring, the Palatka Blue Crab Festival delivers- combining fresh seafood, waterfront views, and a lively, small-town atmosphere just a short drive away. A paper tray crumples slightly under the weight of freshly steamed crab, and the first crack of a shell draws a crowd closer as the scent of Old Bay seasoning lingers in the air. Each spring, from May 22-24, vendors serve blue crab in every way imaginable – rich, buttery clusters infused with spice, crab cakes seared to a crisp golden edge, and low-country boils layered with corn, sausage, and potatoes. Crab-stuffed hush puppies strike the perfect balance of sweetness and heat, while lines form for some of the festival’s most talked-about bites. Beyond the crab, fresh-squeezed lemonade cuts through the humidity, and sweet treats like funnel cake, kettle corn, and saltwater taffy add a nostalgic finish. Artisans line the streets with handmade goods, local makers, and coastal-inspired finds, while live music drifts across the waterfront, keeping the energy high from day to night.
