The most anticipated new offering in St. Augustine is finally opening after extensive renovations and improvements. Odd Birds Cocktail Lounge & Kitchen, on St. Augustine’s Anastasia Island, offers a taste of Latin cuisine and handcrafted cocktails in a beautiful and relaxing space. The new location will open Tuesday, June 23.
“We are bringing our traditions of multi-cultural cuisine and craft cocktails to this amazing location on the island,” said Cesar Diaz of his hospitality business, Odd Birds Group, which he co-owns with Asdrubal Martinez and Shane McFarland. “We are thrilled to join the other vibrant businesses along Anastasia Boulevard. Many businesses have attempted to thrive in this location, it’s a bit of a running joke to locals, but I know that we will go against the odds and be here for the long run.”
The building is located at the former site of Hoptinger Bier Garden & Sausage House, which boasts 6,000 square feet, and offers outdoor seating, bar seating, and indoor tables. Lush greenery surrounds the outdoor courtyard tables, while a colorful hand-painted mural featuring tropical birds greets guests when entering the bar and restaurant. Co-owner Asdrubal Martinez created the mural on a wall that divides the bar from the indoor dining tables. Live music will be featured Friday and Saturday nights and Saturday and Sunday brunch.
Menu items are created by Chef Sebastian Sikora from Odd Birds Café near the Vilano Beach bridge. Guests can enjoy family-style dishes that include ceviche, rotisserie charcoal chicken, an arepa salad and kale Caesar salad, empanadas, chicharrónes, yuca fries, arroz criollo, tequeños (Venezuelan fried cheese), arepitas con nata, and several versions of delicious plantains.
Much of the food is cooked on a charcoal grilled oven created locally by Nick Carrera of Urban Asado, who was featured recently on Cooking Channel’s Man Fire Food. Michael Doyle, a well-known local mixologist, is heading up Odd Birds’ popular bar program. The establishment will continue their “Bartender’s Call,” a tradition where Odd Birds bartenders serve a tailored cocktail that suits patron preference, spirit of choice, and flavor profile.
Odd Birds Cocktail Lounge and Kitchen is located at 200 Anastasia Boulevard on Anastasia Island and will be open from 11am to 2am, seven days a week, for lunch and dinner. Brunch will be served on Saturdays and Sundays starting at 11am. A late-night menu will be served until 1am, and the bar will be open until 2am Learn more at www.oddbirdsgroup.com.
