Nease Students Making a Difference in St. Johns County

The Nease Navy JROTC placed third in the nation at Nationals in Pensacola, finishing among more than 630 JROTC units and earning a spot as one of just 23 teams to qualify. The competition included armed and unarmed drill, athletics, and academics, with standout performances from Cadet Lewis, who tied for first in curl-ups, and Cadet Hendricks, who placed third in push-ups.

In the classroom, Nease students continue to lead. The school secured its third consecutive St. Johns County Math Competition win, extending a winning streak and reinforcing its place as one of the district’s top academic programs. Supported by dedicated teachers and mentors, these “Mathletes” continue to raise the bar year after year.

On the track, records are falling and college commitments are following. Senior Avery Alicea set new school records in both the 100m and 200m. She has signed to run track at Jacksonville University. Fellow senior Selena Gregory continues to dominate in pole vault, currently ranked No. 1 in Florida and No. 10 nationally, with multiple first-place finishes this season. She will continue her career at George Mason, marking another milestone for Nease athletics.

Nease students are also making an impact beyond campus. Shreya Sharma was named the St. Johns County School District’s Outstanding Student Volunteer of the Year, recognizing her dedication to service and reflecting the strong culture of community involvement that continues to define Nease. At the same reception, parent volunteer Christina Cummings was also recognized for her commitment to supporting students.

The Nease Winter Guard had a standout season, earning second place at the Florida Federation of Color Guards Circuit Championships, with support from band parents and community members helping bring the performance to life.

Junior Abbie Turner was crowned Miss Nease 2026–2027. Ansley Trivedi was named 1st Runner-Up, also earning Best Interview and Best Talent, while Faith Sanders received 2nd Runner-Up and Best Style honors.

From themed costumes to confetti-filled touchdowns, Nease Senior Leaders have helped transform game days into full-on school wide events. The group of 14 seniors, along with mascots Alan and D’Nease, has played a key role in building school spirit, leading the student section and creating traditions that continue to energize the stands.

From national recognition to hometown pride, Nease continues to build momentum across every program, closing out the school year with a strong sense of accomplishment and living up to its motto, “Tradition Lives Here.”
