The Nease Panthers tennis program delivered a commanding performance this season, bringing home several state championships and cementing their status as one of the strongest programs in the state of Florida.
The girls team secured a second consecutive championship, capitalizing on their 2025 Class 3A victory with yet another dominant run this year. Under the leadership of head coach Anika Nissen, the girls squad posted a flawless 12-0 record at this year’s state championship in Orlando- an unprecedented move that left longtime Nease tennis director Michael Kypriss speechless. “I haven’t recalled that happening since I began coaching 45 years ago,” said Kypriss after claiming a career 19th championship title. The girls team set the tone early, refusing to let up on their competition. Senior standouts Danielle Wei and Blair Murray led the charge, securing key victories in both singles and doubles play. Competing at the No. 1 line, Wei demonstrated elite skill and composure, pushing the Panthers to a decisive 4-0 sweep over Jensen Beach in the championship match.
Wei’s performance adds to an already impressive resume- two state championships with the Panthers have not gone unnoticed. Her talents have drawn the attention of several Division 1 college programs, and she has committed to continue her tennis career at Lindenwood University in St. Louis. Kypriss credited much of the girls team’s success to Nissen, whose experience as a former player at Flagler College and longtime member of the Palencia Tennis Club brought a competitive edge to the program.
On the boys side, the Panthers also celebrated a state title as captain William Chaves and Charlie Neil captured the overall doubles championship. The pair displayed a consistent, strong chemistry throughout the tournament, securing the top spot against a competitive field. Throughout the season, player development played a crucial role in the team’s success. Kypriss highlighted Tom Salmon, director at the Palencia Tennis Center, as instrumental in preparing both the girls and boys teams. The center continues to serve as a vital training ground for Nease students and Palencia residents seeking to elevate their game.
For Kypriss, the victories reflect more than talent- they represent a collective effort built on experience, mentorship, teamwork. The combined contributions of the coaching staff, families, players, and the community.
