Neighbors helping neighbors is is the mission behind Catholic Charities of the St. Augustine Regional Office, a nonprofit providing critical support to families across several counties. From its office on State Road 16 in St. Augustine, the organization helps residents facing difficult moments — whether putting food on the table, keeping the lights on or preventing a family from losing their home. Catholic Charities focuses on meeting urgent needs while helping families maintain stability. In the past year, the organization distributed more than 205,000 pounds of food to nearly 23,000 individuals through its food pantry, mobile outreach and children’s programs. Emergency financial assistance also helped nearly 600 people avoid homelessness by covering critical expenses such as rent, mortgages or utilities.
Hunger relief remains central to the organization’s work. Its Weekend Hunger Backpack Program provides food to about 360 children each week who rely on school meals during the school day. Volunteers also assemble hundreds of grocery bags weekly and help deliver food to rural communities across the region. Despite its reach, the regional office operates with seven employees supported by more than 100 volunteers who contribute thousands of hours each year. Volunteers staff the food pantry, operate the nonprofit’s thrift store and assist with seasonal outreach programs providing school supplies, holiday meals and gifts to families in need. Community support helps sustain these efforts. The sixth annual Catholic Charities St. Johns County Charity Golf Tournament will be held May 11th at Palencia Golf Club, bringing golfers together to help continue the organization’s work across Northeast Florida.
