Limelight Theatre Offers Summer Workshops and Camps for Teens

If you’ve got a restless teen this summer, the Limelight Theatre has fun and creative solutions for you! Offering a variety of camps and workshops, there is something for everyone interested in the arts. Here’s a quick look at Limelight Theatre’s Teen Factory opportunities during the month of July, plus an upcoming performance of High School Musical you don’t want to miss.

WEEK OF WORKSHOPS

TeenWorkshops

Featuring a new skill each day, during the Limelight’s “Week of Workshops,” from July 13 to 17, teens can learn anything from improvisation to character development. The workshops are flexible enough to pick and choose which days your teen wants to participate. Individual workshops are $25 each or $20 each with a purchase of three or more.

Commedia dell’arteMonday, July 13

Come learn about this well-known Italian style of theatre, with its roots tracing back to the 16th century and still popular today.

Improvisation — Tuesday, July 14

This workshop will explore the fundamentals of improvisation including saying yes, making and responding to offers, being in the moment, and listening. The workshop will culminate in a friendly and fast-paced competition where teams will compete in a number of games inspired by the television show “Whose Line is It Anyway?” Workshop is taught by Leah Page Taisey.

Japanese TheatreWednesday, July 15

Come learn more about Eastern theatre traditions with Thomas Freeman. Students will be exposed to Noh, Kagura, and Bunraku styles.

Character DevelopmentThursday, July 16

You’ve been cast in a show……Now what? This workshop will explore how to develop a character using a number of diverse techniques. Students will read a short play and each actor will choose a character they would like to explore, then discover and experiment with how the character might walk, talk, and gesture. The workshop will end with the actors integrating the character work they’ve done into the staging of different sections of the play. Workshop is taught by Leah Page Taisey.

Freeing Your Natural VoiceFriday, July 17

This workshop is an introduction to the vocal work of Kristin Linklater, using her text Freeing the Natural Voice. Kristin Linklater is a world-renowned teacher and Linklater Voice is one of the leading methodologies of voice training in theater today.

AND THE TONY GOES TO!

“…And the Tony Goes To!” is a two week long Summer camp running From July 20 to July 31 that allows campers to explore songs from classic and contemporary musicals. From Wicked to Les Miserables, 6th through 12th graders will be having fun and practicing their singing voice all week long. The camp day starts at 2 p.m. and end at 5 p.m. and costs $240 for the whole two weeks. The camp is instructed by Dave Alan Thomas, a community and professional theatre member since the 1980’s, and musical accompaniment is performed by Michelle Feldheim.

HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL ON STAGE

Not looking for a summer camp or workshop for your teen, but want to entertain your family for the night with a community engaged production? Come out to see Limelight Theatre’s High School Musical put on by St. Augustine middle and high school students. A Disney favorite known by kids and teens alike, the musical wades through the trials of Troy, Gabriella and their classmates at East High as they balance high school, relationships and being a teen.

Save the Date: You can catch a performance of High School Musical Friday, July 10 or Saturday, July 11 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, July 12 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults, and $5 for children 12 and younger.
