Anew destination for North Florida gamers, the St. Augustine Gaming Lounge, which officially opened it’s doors on March 1st offers a welcoming family-friendly space where kids can gather to socialize while enjoying a mix of both classic and modern games. Inside, visitors can jump between various activities that engage a wide variety of interests. Classic arcade-style games such as basketball shootouts sit alongside more traditional video games like Super Mario Brothers and The Legend of Zelda. Guests are able to challenge their friends to air hockey, foosball, or interactive screen projection games that encourage physical activity indoors; throwing a football, kicking field goals, and even virtual hunting challenges.
The Gaming Lounge was opened with community in mind. Owner Leslie Pfieffer said her idea for the space originated after she noticed a lack of local hangout spaces for young people in the area. A parent of two young children, she aimed to create an environment where kids could spend their time and socialize after school in a safe, welcoming setting. “We’re merging video games with an atmosphere where kids can socialize and hang out,” Pfieffer said. “Kids don’t want to be alone- it’s not healthy.”
Beyond just gaming, the lounge offers light snacks for guests to refuel in between rounds. A relaxed setting encourages groups to stick around for hours, making the lounge an appealing option for parents who want their children to have a safe, supervised place to spend time either after school or on the weekends. Currently, the lounge operates Monday through Thursday from 4 PM to 10 PM, Friday from 4 PM to 11 PM, Saturday from noon to 11 PM and Sunday from noon to 10 PM. Pfieffer has plans to extend the lounge’s hours during summer, when kids are out of school. Looking ahead, Pfieffer says the lounge may also host watch nights for sporting events such as basketball tournaments or boxing matches- giving the community another reason to gather around the big screen.
With a mix of classic arcade nostalgia, modern gaming, and a strong emphasis on social connection, the St. Augustine Gaming Lounge is shaping up to be a must-go destination for kids in the local community. For parents and their kids alike, the lounge offers a place where play, connection, and community come together under the same roof.
