Tinsel and lights, presents and parties, visions of sugar plums are growing ever nearer as St. Augustine prepares for the holiday season. Whether your favorite holiday activity is wandering under the sparkling lights downtown or shopping for presents in cozy sweaters, there’s one local tradition that must be on your calendar – The St. Augustine Winter Spectacular! The magical production of the St. Augustine Winter Spectacular! is gracing the St. Augustine stage once again for its 7th season.
Directed by Stephanie Burkhardt, Executive Artistic Director of The Dance Company, this production will kick-off the holiday season in the nation’s oldest city. The performances will take place in the beautiful Lewis Auditorium at Flagler College on Saturday, December 7 at 7pm and Sunday, December 8 at 2pm among the Nights of Lights in historical downtown St. Augustine.
The show features over 100 performers amidst different scenes that comprise a family-friendly, entertaining storyline that follows a young girl’s journey during the holidays. The dance-based storyline includes Rockette kicklines, ballerinas, acrobats, actors, and musical theatre numbers. With Ellie Hogan, a local middle school student at Sebastian Middle School, dancing lead, this original production will entertain all ages. With its talented cast, dazzling costuming, and wide array of eye-catching scenery, the show is never the same one year to the next. You’ll get to see some familiar favorites blended with some new dances and choreography.
Auditions and rehearsals for the show started back in August, and the performers have been working diligently for months to put on a, well, spectacular show. This year, the experienced and talented choreographers from The Dance Company were joined by two former Radio City Rockettes, Christina Hedrick and Ashley Adams, to set kickline dances. With choreographers like these at the heart of the show, it’s sure to be an unforgettable night.
The Dance Company’s programs have provided strong technical and artistic dance training for over 25 years. Through offering scholarships, tuition assistance, community performances, and volunteer efforts, The Dance Company is a civic-minded non-profit organization that recognizes the importance of working within the community.
