When planning the elusive “date night” why not spread the night out over several stops? The best part about Downtown St. Augustine is parking at your favorite “secret spot” and setting off on foot.
My highest recommendation for a classy Saturday, September 20th evening, is an appetizer and beverage at the Casa Monica Cobalt Lounge, followed by a stroll across King Street to the Lewis Auditorium at Flagler College for a 7:30 Gala Concert by the EMMA Concert Association featuring the world renowned Preservation Hall Jazz Band. After the show, a short walk to the bay front for a Sweetini at The Tini Martini Bar will complete the evening with Style!
Our no hassle parking secret is the valet at The Casa Monica Hotel. $5 plus tip makes for a stress free start to your night.
Preservation Hall was founded in 1961 by Allan and Sandra Jaffe in order to promote traditional and authentic New Orleans jazz, which had waned in popularity. When the Jaffes transformed the venue at 726 St. Peter Street in the French Quarter, they made it a point to integrate and highlight musicians who had been active during the formative years of jazz. Legendary players like George Lewis, Sweet Emma Barrett and Kid Thomas Valentine were among the Hall’s original stars. The Preservation Hall was one of very few venues in Jim Crow New Orleans to welcome performers of all races.
The EMMA Concert Association has 17 upcoming concerts and music masters series events all performed at our very own Flagler College.
The Tini Martini Bar at the Casablanca Inn is arguably the best place to view the bay front, people watch and enjoy a tasty beverage.
How do you “Keep Date Night Classy” in St. Augustine?
