Regardless of how we ended up here in St. Augustine or how long we’ve been here, we all have one thing in common — we are actively choosing to remain here in this tiny old city and call it our home sweet home. Our August/September issue celebrates the rich culture of our historic, inviting, creative, family-friendly, Florida community.
The issue is officially off to print and we are excited to share it with you in just a matter of days. In the meantime, here are five quick teasers of what you can expect to find inside (and on the cover) of what we’ve dubbed the Family Issue.
1. ILLUSTRATED ARTWORK
The cover artwork and our Unofficial Official Guide to the 450th were beautifully designed and illustrated (drawn and painted) by local artist, Flagler Alumnus, and art teacher, Andrew Scott Wilson. Stay tuned for a behind the scenes look at the making of the cover, plus details on how to get a commemorative print of his artwork we so love. For now, in case you missed the visual we posted earlier this week, here’s a glimpse of our cover artwork we’re in awe of.
2. A HOME SHOOT THAT MADE US FEEL RIGHT AT HOME
Never have we felt more at home than we did while shooting this issue’s “Home Style” feature. And we’re now inspired to get gardening this fall. Can you guess whose giving garden these flowers were cut from?
Yes, we actually got to take these flowers (and more) home with us following the shoot.
3. YOUTH-INSPIRED STORIES
What better way to get lively shots of an athlete in action than to dive right in and go all out, or in this case, go to the bottom of the pool. Shout out to photographer Rob Futrell for being the epitome of a good sport, and for taking some incredible action shots of one local all-star. Find out who she is in our all-star feature.
4. SIGNATURE SIPPIN’ IN HIGH STYLE
There’s one bar in town that is recognized for its vintage atmosphere and its bartenders. Did we mention they craft their own ice cubes? This isn’t really a hint. More like a dead giveaway. In the issue you’ll get to sit down and have a drink with one of its bartenders.
Doesn’t this cocktail look tasty? This shoot by photographer Brian Miller was a total blast. Honestly, we had a hard time resisting doing some sippin’ ourselves; however, considering it was before lunchtime…we successfully fought the urge.
5. ECO-FRIENDLY EARLY LEARNING
One local early education center has challenged what many might consider to be the norm, and created a hybrid environment for the young ones. The only hint you get for this one is that it’s located on the island. Oh, and you get to take your shoes off and get comfortable.
That’s all you get for now. We’d love to tell you more but then we would just be giving everything away now, wouldn’t we?
