Grownup Recess: Local Lady Offering Improv Classes, Shows, and More!

Laughter is the best medicine. According to the Mayo Clinic, laughter increases circulation, aids in muscle relaxation, improves your immune system, and can even relieve pain by causing the body to produce its own natural painkillers. For Amy Angelilli, Founder and Chief Adventure Officer of The Adventure Project, helping her clients find the giggles, guffaws, and chuckles in life is all part of a day’s work.

Originally from Philadelphia, Amy is a certified laughter yoga leader with 20 years of improv performing, teaching, and facilitating experience. She has led team building and training sessions in nearly every environment imaginable from corporations to conferences to colleges. In 2016, Amy launched the once Denver-based The Adventure Project in St. Augustine – offer.ing individuals and groups a blend of improvisation, laughter yoga, and immersive, interactive play experiences. They launched their 2022-2023 season at the end of August at Limelight Theatre with various levels of improv classes for adults as well as monthly improv shows.

“Improv’s benefits go way beyond the theater’s stage and positively impact life’s stage,” Amy explained of the theater form performed without a script. “Improv enables us to be better versions of ourselves by increasing our emotional intelligence, enhancing our interpersonal and intra-personal skills, and giving us tools for better empathy, active listening, creative thinking, and collaboration. Plus, it makes us more engaged and engaging – and, of course, fun.”
