Free Shuttle Service Available for St. Augustine’s Fireworks Over the Matanzas Celebration

Fireworks, live music and waterfront views return to downtown St. Augustine this Independence Day as Fireworks Over the Matanzas brings thousands to the city’s historic bayfront on Saturday, July 4, along with a free shuttle service to help visitors navigate the busy holiday crowds. The City of St. Augustine will have the free Park & Ride shuttle service running on Anastasia Island from 6 p.m. to midnight.

Visitors can park at the following locations:

Visitors parking at the Alligator Farm will need to cross Anastasia Boulevard to access the shuttle at R.B. Hunt Elementary School.

Shuttle drop-off and pickup will take place at the intersection of Flagler Boulevard and Gerado Street.

City officials are encouraging attendees to arrive early, as downtown parking will be limited throughout the evening. On-street parking and city-owned lots will be free on July 4 in observance of the federal holiday, but drivers should confirm they are not parking in privately owned lots, where towing may be enforced.

The Historic Downtown Parking Facility at 1 Cordova St. will also be available for $20 per vehicle or $3.00 with the ParkStAug resident discount. Additional temporary road closures will be in effect throughout the afternoon and evening. Closures will begin at 4 p.m., with further restrictions in place from approximately 7:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. During this time, vehicles will be prohibited on:

  • The Bridge of Lions
  • Avenida Menendez
  • S. Castillo Drive.

Boaters planning to view the fireworks from Matanzas Bay should plan ahead for temporary restrictions. The Bridge of Lions will not open for marine traffic after 8 p.m. and will be closed until approximately 11 p.m. The St. Augustine Municipal Marina will offer limited overnight slips and hourly dockage, subject to availability.
