You can now help save the planet by simply visiting the hair salon. VIBE Hair Company, a certified Green Circle Salon, has opened in the Nation’s Oldest City. Sam Stark, seasoned stylist and owner of VIBE Hair Company, dreamed of opening up a salon and giving back to the Earth. When she heard about Green Circle salons from her time in California, she knew exactly where to start. “This opportunity literally fell in my lap,” Stark explained of being given the chance to purchase a turn-key salon in her hometown. “I like to say that it was God telling me to move in this new direction in my life. I had always dreamt of owning my own salon, but didn’t think that it would happen this quickly.”
Stark was raised in St. Augustine and lived in California for four years. She returned to the old city to be close to family and brought with her an eco-conscious mindset that has since translated into her role as a salon owner. Green Circle salons repurpose and recover up to 95 percent of the resources that were once considered waste; materials such as hair, leftover hair color, foils, color tubes, aerosol cans, paper, and plastics. Since 2009, Green Circle member salons have diverted over 5.5 million pounds of material from landfills and waterways.
Along with being a sustainable salon, Stark has plans to make the salon one that thrives on charity work and being inclusive for everyone. “I want it to feel like a space where everyone feels welcome,” said Stark. “A place where diversity is welcome.” At the Grand Opening event on July 5th, VIBE raised $1,052 for Her Song Jax, an organization fighting against human trafficking.
