Many of us were heartbroken over the cancellation of the annual Romanza Festivale. Every year, Romanza has brought the arts of the city to life with free concerts and performances and events that celebrate the vibrancy of the arts community in St. Augustine. The Festivale had originally been scheduled for 17 days from May 1 to May 17, but all in-person events had to be cancelled due to the COVID-19 emergency. But even though we won’t get to sit in an audience this year, you can still experience the Festivale virtually! You can enjoy all of the talented participants in Romanza’s free “Home Stream” Festivale.
The livestream events will take place the weekend of May 15-17. Simply go to www.RomanzaFestivale.com when the portal is open, to see the free streaming video. The first show, “Shell Shock”, will begin Friday May 15 at 7:30pm.
Shell Shock is a stage adaptation written by Mr. Marriott of an authentic ex-soldier’s diary. The diary was originally written in book form by Neal Blower. The story concerns Tommy, who, following a long career in the military, attempts to fit into civilian life. His comments on the absurdities of everyday life are at first humorous but then spiral down into anxiety, stress and beyond. Ending on a positive note, the play is ultimately a redemptive drama offering hope to those touched by mental health issues.
