“We are so excited to announce,” says Joan Whitson, Coordinator for The Early Learning Coalition, “that The Early Learning Coalition of North Florida is partnering with The Kiwanis Club of St. Augustine to host the First Annual Kiwanis Character Breakfast. This is a family-oriented event designed to offer an opportunity for fun and togetherness for everyone from the youngest family members to grandma and grandpa.”
Highlights of the Character Breakfast event will include a delicious breakfast with a variety of Disney and other characters, who will go table-to-table for hugs, high fives, photos, autographs, and general merriment. “We expect 250-300 attendees and coverage by the local media. We’ll offer lots of activities for the little ones from a Princess Parlor to a Superhero Corner to a Pirates’ Shipyard. There will be multiple photo opportunities, a Chinese auction, a DJ, and much, much more fun!” The breakfast will be held on Saturday, February 10th 2018 from 9:30am-11:30am at the Solomon Calhoun Center located at 1300 Duval St. in St. Augustine.
The Kiwanis Club of St. Augustine is an active supporter of The Early Learning Coalition and its many outreach programs to pre-school children as well as toddlers by providing volunteers for reading programs and special events at schools and libraries. Kiwanis International is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to serving the children of the world. Here are just a few examples of how the Kiwanis Club of St. Augustine has worked for the benefit of the children in our community last year:
Youth Clubs in Local Schools
The Club sponsors on-going clubs that teach and promote leadership skills and community service opportunities for children of all ages. There are Key Clubs at both St. Augustine High School & Pedro Menendez High School; Builders Club at Murray Middle School; and K-Kids Clubs at Ketterlinus, Crookshank & Osceola Elementary Schools.
Boys & Girls Club Support
They’ve partnered with another local Kiwanis Club to provide much-needed equipment to support the Boys & Girls Club after-school programs.
Tag! Children’s Museum of St. Augustine
They donated generously to help the Children’s Museum create transformative, play-based opportunities where children can discover, explore, and innovate.
Ancient City Kids Day & Toddler Fest
They partner with the Early Learning Coalition annually to sponsor these events.
Scholarships
They provide annual scholarships for 4 students from area high schools.
Food Drives
They also support and encourage our students to collect, package, and deliver bags of food to local families through St. Johns Full Service Schools at Thanksgiving. They donate needed food items to the St. Francis House and other food pantries.
