Ever since its release, Pokémon GO has been a worldwide sensation. It is now not an unusual sight to see people of all ages wandering around the city in groups or alone, staring at their phones, and suddenly exclaiming, “I just caught a Charmander!” or “She just took over my gym!” It’s been quite a bizarre commotion.
If you’ve been infected with the Pokémon fever, we’ve got just the event for you. Join the St. Johns County Parks and Recreation Department this Saturday at Alpine Groves Park in Fruit Cove (weather permitting) for a Pokémon GO Challenge! Participants will be placed on one of three teams and will walk a 1.5-mile course to catch as many Pokémon as possible. All players on the winning team will receive a medal, so come show off your training skills.
Registration is $10 for adults and $5 for youth 17 and under, and will remain open until 8:30 am on October 8. The first 100 participants will receive a free t-shirt. Vehicular traffic at Alpine Groves Park will be restricted from 7 to 11:30 am on the day of the event to ensure the safety of all players.
