Breaking the Cycle Through Care

Since 1990, the Betty Griffin Center has stood as a vital resource in St. Johns County, providing safe shelter, advocacy, and support for survivors of domestic and sexual abuse. Celebrating 35 years of service, the center was named St. Augustine’s Best Charity for the 3rd year, a testament to their lasting impact and dedication.

In January, Betty Griffin partnered with St. Johns River State College to host their first annual educational sessions across all three campuses for National Human Trafficking Prevention and Stalking Awareness Month. These sessions teach warning signs, the link between stalking and trafficking, how to support those with complex trauma, and how to advocate for youth in the system. This work continues year-round through Peace Club, a prevention program offered throughout St. Johns County and surrounding areas at schools, courthouses, and community partners. Aimed at children ages 3-17, it provides age-appropriate lessons on identifying abuse, building self-esteem, resolving conflicts peacefully, and developing a safety plan if needed. It further empowers children to recognize and address violence at home, working to break cycles of abuse before they begin.

Throughout the football season, the Betty Griffin Center partners with the Jaguars, selling home game tickets through the “Give & Go” program. For every ticket purchased through their website, $10 is donated, and as more tickets are sold, the Jaguars’ donation match will increase, raising crucial funds and awareness to expand services and help break the cycle of violence before it begins. On November 1st, the Center will host its 3rd annual Pickleball for Peace at Old Coast Pickleball, a round-robin style tournaments, alongside raffle prizes, food trucks, and all proceeds supporting survivors of domestic and sexual abuse.
