Boot Scootin’ & BBQ’n 2016: Fundraiser for St. Johns County School District

For the second consecutive year, guests of the Boot Scootin’ BBQ will experience a night of food, drinks, music, and activities – all centered around a common fundraising goal. From bull riding and cow pie bingo, to the silent auction, photo booth, games and prizes, the event is sure to be a Boot Scootin’ good time.

The BBQ is one of two main events hosted throughout the year by Investing in Kids (INK), a local non-profit organization directed towards supporting the St. Johns County School District. As one of the organization’s primary fundraising events, this night is aimed at creating an all-inclusive environment to invite and welcome the community to be a part of this cause.

Guests can chow down all night on hometown BBQ and drinks donated by a range of local vendors – including Woodpeckers Backyard BBQ, Mojos BBQ Old City, and Smokin D’s BBQ – while listening to live country and classic rock performers, the Paper City Hustlers.

A mechanical bull riding competition and classic cowpie bingo are just two favorite events from last year that will be back on the evening’s lineup this October. Rype & Readi Farm Market will sponsor the bingo game, consisting of two cows and a grid formation on the field. In that grid, guests can place bids on where they think each cow will place it’s ‘mooo-vement for education.’

With 200-300 attendees expected, the goal is to raise $30,000 from this year’s BBQ. The RSM US Foundation, with partners based in Jacksonville, has joined in on the fundraising this year by agreeing to donate a 50% match for all funds received by INK from August 1 – October 5.

Thanks to the event’s Title Sponsor, Carlisle Interconnect Technologies, and nearly 20 other sponsors, over 90% of INK’s funds raised will go to classroom projects, scholarships and other initiatives for the 40,000 students within the school district.

“This event is really meant to support our strategic plan and mission at INK, and mainly to invest in children and teachers in the St. Johns County School District,” said Holly Sipprell, Director of Marketing & Events at INK. “Many nonprofits can’t devote this much to a cause, and we have worked really hard to stay on budget so that we can make a real impact on students and teachers. It’s all relational; if it’s impacting students it’s impacting teachers, and vice versa.”
