As St. Augustine continues to grow, so does the need for innovative, high-quality education. Treaty Oaks Preparatory Academy is set to open its doors in August 2025 as a K-8 tuition-free public charter school, offering students a comprehensive academic experience paired with a strong emphasis on character development. With a curriculum designed to foster critical thinking, collaboration, and leadership, the academy aims to equip students with the skills necessary for success in school and life. In a system where students being left behind is the norm, they focus on implementing new educational models to promote social and academic development. Beyond academics, Treaty Oaks is committed to creating a supportive learning environment where students develop passion, purpose, integrity, and grit. We sat down with a representative from the school to learn more about what families can expect when they open their doors in the upcoming fall semester, enrolling Kindergarten through 6th grade, with plans to grow in the future.
What differs from mainstream approaches when it comes to Treaty Oaks Preparatory Academy?
At Treaty Oaks Preparatory Academy, we believe that every child has unique strengths, interests, and potential. Our mission is to inspire students to excel academically while also fostering strong character and leadership skills. We combine academics with a personalized approach to learning, ensuring that students are not just absorbing information but truly engaging with their education. In addition to a strong core curriculum, we emphasize project-based learning, critical thinking, and collaboration—preparing students for success both in school and in life.
What education models do you find effective?
Our ‘Educational Village Communities’ model for grades K-5 is designed to create a synergistic and collaborative learning environment. This approach involves grouping all students of a single grade into one larger group led by multiple teachers. This intentional design fosters teamwork a sense of community, helping students develop social skills, build meaningful relationships, and enhance their academic engagement. This model also allows for personalized learning experiences, as teachers can independently focus on smaller groups or even individual student development throughout the school year.
How does Treaty Oaks Preparatory Academy support its students?
We are committed to providing a well-rounded education that builds strong minds and good hearts. Our curriculum is designed to challenge students while also encouraging creativity, problem-solving, and collaboration. In the younger grades, we create dynamic learning environments where students can engage in hands-on projects, explore their interests, and work together. As students progress into middle school, they will have the opportunity to earn high school credits, setting them on an accelerated path to success. Beyond academics, we place a strong emphasis on character education, teaching values like respect, integrity, and perseverance to help students develop into confident, compassionate individuals.
How can schools like Treaty Oaks prepare students for their future?
Our mission is relentless commitment to student greatness in school and life. This dual focus means that while we challenge our students intellectually, we also place a strong emphasis on developing virtues such as integrity, empathy, and perseverance. By fostering these qualities, we aim to cultivate not only knowledgeable students but also responsible and ethical individuals who contribute positively to society.
