Tricia Booker, an award-winning writer who teaches journalism at the University of North Florida and a published author, has announced the release of her first book, The Place of Peace, a portrayal of how adoption, heartache, and love built a family. This memoir was published by Twisted Road Publications and will be released on March 15 only to select retailers. If you cannot wait to purchase Booker’s memoir, it is available for pre-order on Amazon.com.
“We tried to have kids the traditional way,” says Tricia. “When we didn’t get pregnant, we decided to live a fulfilling, adventurous life – without children. But that’s not what happened,” says Tricia.
This red-headed, salty story-teller from the vibrant New Orleans area resides in Ponte Vedra Beach with her husband and three children. Tricia earned her B.A. in American Studies from the University of Notre Dame and M.S. in Journalism from Boston University. She has published many pieces in the Notre Dame Magazine, Folio Weekly, Minnesota’s Law & Politics and the Vero Beach Press Journal. Booker is now a boxing instructor, part-time college professor, and a dedicated domestic engineer.
In her memoir she speaks about her personal account of her frustration, depression, joy, heartache, and love that she went through trying to build a family through international adoption. Tricia describes her son’s diagnosis with Anxious-Attachment Disorder and how she provided him with a trained service dog to help him.
Tricia describes how first child was born in Vietnam and spent the first couple months residing in a poor, but loving orphanage. Her two other children were born in Guatemala where they lived in tiny cribs with barely any social interaction. She explains that her son was dramatically impacted by the events he went through and that she and her husband spent nine years trying to help and comfort him throughout this struggle. She hopes her memoir will help other parents learn to help their kids sooner.
