Fireworks Over the Matanzas
The City of St. Augustine’s signature Independence Day celebration returns Saturday, July 4, with Fireworks Over the Matanzas, one of Florida’s most iconic Fourth of July events. The evening begins at 6 p.m. in the Plaza de la Constitución with a free patriotic concert by The All-Star Orchestra, featuring popular classics and patriotic music. Fireworks launch over Matanzas Bay later in the evening, creating a spectacular backdrop against the Castillo de San Marcos and St. Augustine’s historic bay front. Admission is free. Independence on the Ramparts: America 250 in Brass
Celebrate America’s 250th anniversary at the Castillo de San Marcos with a day of patriotic music and living history during Independence on the Ramparts: America 250 in Brass, Fife & Drum. Held on Friday, July 3, the event will feature performances throughout the day from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., bringing the sounds of America’s past to the nation’s oldest masonry fort. Visitors can enjoy brass and fife-and-drum music while exploring one of St. Augustine’s most treasured historic landmarks. Admission to the Castillo is free for the event, and all National Park Service sites will offer free admission throughout the July 4 holiday weekend. Reading of the Declaration of Independence at the Ximenez-Fatio House Museum
History comes to life on July 8 as the Ximenez-Fatio House Museum hosts a community-wide Reading of the Declaration of Independence, commemorating the 250th anniversary of the document’s first public reading in 1776. Presented in partnership with the Maria Jefferson Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and the St. Augustine Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR), the event is part of a nationwide simultaneous reading taking place in communities across the country. Local leaders will read selected portions of the Declaration while attendees reflect on the ideals of liberty and independence that shaped the nation. The evening begins with an opening ceremony at 5:30 p.m., followed by the reading at 6 p.m., in the courtyard of the historic Ximenez-Fatio House Museum.
