When the weather is as beautiful as ours, sometimes it’s hard to force yourself to stay in the gym for your workout. That sunshine and fresh air is calling you, but you know you still need to get fit and stay healthy. Luckily, there are a lot of ways to do just that in the open air. These lessons, groups, and classes will let you take in the beauty of nature during your workout. From paddleboarding to kitesurfing to yoga on the beach, St. Augustine knows how to work on fitness in the outdoors.
Ancient City Road Runners
Anyone can take up jogging, but if you want to run by the beautiful beaches or around the Lighthouse and need a little company, the Ancient City Road Runners is the way to go. Their regular group runs happen on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday mornings. Check their website for the daters and times of each loop.
Florida Get Fit
A group class for all ages, this bootcamp is both indoor and outdoor and mixes traditional body weight with interval and strength training. Whether you’re a beginner just getting back into the fitness world or a seasoned pro that wants an extra edge, this class will let you get outside to strengthen your body.
STAND UP PADDLEBOARD YOGA
SUP Yoga Center
Peaceful, fun, and an amazing way to take your practice outdoors, Stand Up Paddleboard Yoga will help you feel grounded, stable, and calm. Classes start with some basic paddleboard instruction – so that students will feel comfortable on the water – then you can practice yoga while you float! Group classes are offered throughout the week as well as private lessons and yoga retreats.
Ultimate St. Augustine
Anyone who has played Ultimate Frisbee knows that it’s super high energy and crazy fun! The Ultimate St. Augustine group meets every Saturday at 10am next to the skate park on Anastasia Island (200 Red Cox Drive). The games are co-ed, so everyone can have some ultimate fun.
Enjoy the sound of relaxing waves while you practice yoga in the sand. This group meets every Tuesday and Thursday at Ocean Hammock Park for an hour of meditation, stretching, and movement. It’s a donation-based class for all different skill levels.
Head out to the sand for a bootcamp that utilizes the environment as part of your training. You’ll use bodyweight and occasional equipment (think bands and trx) to help you on your path to health and fitness. The group meets on Tuesdays and Fridays at the Vilano Beach Pavilion.
Ocean Extreme Sports
Gliding across the waves isn’t just for surfers! Learn how to get on a board and take to the air (sort of). With Ocean Extreme Sports, you can take private lessons, lessons by the hours, or participate in ground school. It’s an unusual sport, but you’ll get a workout!
St. Augustine Surf School, Surf Station, Pit Surf Shop
In this city, there’s hardly a more fun way to get outside and get fit than surfing. Of course, you first have to know how to surf. So now’s the time to take a lesson and get yourself on a board! Take a private lesson or grab a few friends and learn a new skill together!
