Cultivating those warm, fuzzy feelings of Christmas and the winter holidays can be a hard task in Florida. The weather never seems to cooperate with hot chocolate, candy cane, crackling fire cravings. So in a place like St. Augustine, we have to find other ways to feel festive. Thankfully, this time of year, the Oldest City is always in a celebratory mood, so we’ve found six ways for you to get in the holiday spirit this weekend.
The Empty Stocking Fund Cocktail Reception | December 2
The St. Augustine Record will host a cocktail reception fundraiser for its holiday charity The Empty Stocking Fund. The event will feature a visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus, delicious food and drink, music, and a silent auction for gingerbread houses and other local items. The Fund helps raise money for local families in need during the holidays. Tickets to the event are $25 and dress is cocktail attire.
Christmas Parade | December 3
Welcome in the holiday cheer with this time-honored St. Augustine tradition. The Christmas Parade features floats, carriages, cars, marching bands, and more all decked out in festive decoration. And if that weren’t enough, Santa himself joins in the fun! The parade begins at Mission Nombre de Dios and ends at the Visitors Center. Parade-goers are welcome to line the streets.
Gingerbread Man 10K & 5K | December 3
No better way to celebrate than with breaking a sweat! Join your favorite Christmas cookie at World Golf Village and race in your best holiday attire (candy cane stripes and jingle bells always encouraged). You also have the opportunity to donate unopened toys for local children in need. Registration for adults is $35 up to and on race day. Registration for participants 16 and under is $25 up to and on race day. The 10K begins at 8am and the 5K at 8:05am.
Reindeer Run | December 3
A true one-mile run, this festive race traverses the Christmas parade route right before the festivities begin. Let the cheering crowds and merry atmosphere spur you on to victory and make sure you stay behind for the procession! Day-of registration is $10 and opens at 8:30am. The event is hosted by the Boys & Girls Club of St. Augustine.
