3 Things to Eat and Drink In St. Augustine This Weekend (6/4/16)

Four-day weeks are a double-edged sword. Sure, Friday comes before you know it. The short week, however, renders the traditional five-day week that follows into a monotonous, soul-sucking slog… so we’ve heard.

Anyway, after a long Memorial Day weekend and a short work week, we thought it would be smart to keep things simple this weekend, with some eats and drinks that are straight forward, yet remarkably tasty in their austerity. Take it easy, stay local, and enjoy the weekend…while it lasts.

Pork Feathers Arepa from Odd Birds (33 Charlotte Street)

Known mainly for their handcrafted cocktails, made from local ingredients, Odd Birds also serves a mean arepa. Odd Birds’ arepas are stuffed with fresh ingredients and we encourage you to try the Pork Feathers – sautéed pork al mojo with feta cheese.

Fresh Catch Sandwich from Catch 27 (40 Charlotte Street)

Doesn’t get any simpler. Or fresher. Or better. Or sandwich-y-er (that’s a word). The fish sandwich comes with fresh, locally caught fish (likely mahi or cobia this weekend, although the one in the photo above is flounder), lettuce, tomato and Catch 27’s homemade remoulade.

“As American As” from Barley Republic Public House (48 Spanish Street)

If missed this last weekend, you may want to stop in to Barley Republic and finish the sentence with an “As American As” (vanilla vodka, cinnamon, lime, Magner’s Irish cider). Wait… Magner’s Irish Cider? Oh, who cares. In any event, Barley Republic is rolling out their summer cocktail menu, so if apple pie isn’t your thing, you’re bound to find a flavor more to your liking.
