Eat, Drink, Repeat: The Real Deal
April Fools’ Day is upon us and whether you’re a practical jokester, or under the age of ten… let’s just say if you are a practical jokester, you better be under the age of ten. Please, don’t be that guy. From Nigerian Princes to Trump University, there are just too many ways to “get got” these days. So, rather than using this weekend as an open invitation to engage in the callous, tasteless mischief that is April Fools’, we here at St. Augustine Social invite you to spend it celebrating this city’s delicious authenticity.
Drink: Gold Standard Daquiri from Ice Plant Bar (110 Riberia St)

What’s the most popular tourist attraction in St. Augustine? Here’s a thematic hint: It ain’t the fountain of youth. It’s the St. Augustine Distillery (which tells you a lot about what tourists are coming in town to do…). In any event St. Augustine Distillery’s Pot Distilled Rum – just released in January – took home the gold medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition in March.
If you need a reason to celebrate (or even if you don’t), show the Distillery some love for their big win and order the Gold Standard Daquiri – muddled mint leaves, velvet falernum, lime, and the award winning rum – at the neighboring Ice Plant Bar.
Eat: Rhythm and Ribs Festival (Special Events Field)
Marc Broussard, Herd of Watts, and the Marshall Tucker Band (pictured) highlight three days of music, real music (Played by people! With actual instruments! And fu manchus!). But let’s be honest, the real headliners are the folks from Carolina King, Camp 31, Desperado’s, and Smokin D’s, all of whom will be slingin’ mouthwatering hunks of pork all weekend long. Bring your lap steel and slather it up with some Carolina sweet. You’ll earn yourself a crowd in no time**.
Drink: Boulevard Hibiscus Gose from Rendezvous Restaurant (106 St. George Street)
Gose’s are all the rage right now, but don’t be fooled by the imitators. Boulevard’s been at it a long time and this sour beer – infused with coriander and sea salt, then steeped with hibiscus – from the Kansas City brewery pays tribute to original German style Gose. Act fast as Rendezvous only has a limited supply of this tasty libation.
**In no way does St. Augustine Social endorse putting BBQ sauce on your guitar
