Musician Ed Taylor Revives Memories for Local Seniors

For lifelong musician Ed Taylor, music has always been a passion. Having started performing professionally at just 16, he never imagined that years later, a simple TikTok video would inspire him to bring his talents to an unexpected audience—residents in assisted living and memory care homes. Ed’s journey into volunteer performances began when he stumbled across a video of musician Casey Jones Costello singing at an assisted living facility. Something clicked, and he knew he had to be part of that world. Today, he brings a fully immersive experience to seniors, transforming their spaces into dazzling mid-century concert halls.

Appearing as ‘Eddie Holiday’ he specializes in jazz standards from the Great American Songbook, performing the classics from the 1920s to the 1960s that pay homage to legends like Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Nat King Cole, and Bing Crosby. But his performances go beyond just singing. Taylor recreates the magic of a vintage Las Vegas stage with glittering curtains, dramatic lighting, and an elegant tuxedo. He even incorporates mid-century props, using them as storytelling tools to spark nostalgia and transport residents back in time. “Many of these residents can’t attend concerts, so I bring the show to them,” Ed explains. “Familiar songs can stir memories, lift spirits, and even help residents reconnect with their past.” His performances also serve as a form of reminiscence therapy, where music, humor, and storytelling encourage engagement and emotional connection. After each show, Taylor spends time visiting with residents, listening to their stories, and forming meaningful bonds. “They have the most fascinating experiences to share,” he says. For musicians looking to make a difference, Taylor’s advice is simple: start small. “Reach out to local care homes and offer your time. Even if you just make one friend, you’re making an impact.” Through his music and presence, Taylor is proving that a song, a story, and a little bit of showmanship can bring immense joy to those who need it most.
