Venardos Circus Opens at the St. Augustine Amphitheatre

Venardos Circus and its namesake ringmaster Kevin Venardos will open a brand new show, with original music, storytelling, and cast members, when the show returns to the St. Augustine Amphitheatre for 48 performances beginning December 19 and lasting through January 27.

The traveling troupe of performers had a successful stint in St. Augustine last January, with 4,200 attendees, 83 percent of tickets sold, 10 consecutive sellouts and 52 percent of the circus attendees coming from outside St. Johns County for 17 performances. That carried over to April when Venardos Circus performed on the grounds of Christ’s Church in Jacksonville. Recent performances in Asheville, NC and Winter Park, FL, have resulted in sellouts for more than half of the performances during a national tour.

The success earlier this year will result in nearly triple the shows when the circus returns to start its 2019 national tour. There will be multiple St. Augustine performances daily on weekends (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday). There are two performances scheduled for New Year’s Day, but no shows on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day or New Year’s Eve. All performances are in a classic red and white tent set up in the St. Augustine Amphitheatre parking lot, with a tent raising scheduled for Sunday, December 16.

Venardos, the former Ringling Bros. Ringmaster, created his own world-class, Broadway Musical-style format called “the American circus with the heart of a Broadway Show” with multiple performers and a singing and dancing theme. When Venardos held its first performance in California in 2014, it was just a little Circus, but it had great big dreams. In the years since, Venardos Circus has grown into a living example of the power of dreams, and proudly continues the American Circus tradition for a new generation, bringing joy to people everywhere.

The classic red-and-white tent provides an intimate feel and seating for up to 350 guests. An interactive pre-show party takes place one hour before show time with opportunities to meet the cast, snap selfies and play games. The main event lasts approximately 90 minutes, with a brief intermission. Attendees are encouraged to stay after the show to mingle with the performers and take group photos.
