The theatre is a magical place regardless of whether you’re sitting in the audience or standing on stage. And this summer, St. Augustine’s Summer Musical Theatre Camp is here to excite and entertain both actor and spectator. Middle schoolers, high schoolers, and even the little ones have a chance to don costumes, memorize lines, and learn what it takes to put on a full-scale production. But don’t worry – they don’t get all the fun! Each camp session has a weekend of performance open to the public so that you have a chance to see these spectacular shows. And whether you’re standing in the spotlight or taking in the show, we have everything you need to know about the 24th season of Summer Musical Theatre Camp.
FOR THE AUDIENCE
The first installment of the 24th season is the Tony Award-winning theatrical classic Les Misérables. Les Misérables transports the audience to France during the height of the French Revolution. Through awe-inspiring and emotional music, the story follows Jean Valjean, a man released from an unjust prison sentence and then pursued by the ruthless policeman Javert. The two men, along with Fantine, Cosette, Marius, Eponine, and a strong ensemble cast, search for redemption, grace, and the nature of law during a time of war. The songs are memorable, the characters compelling, and the story will have you breathless.
The show will be performed at Flagler College’s Lewis Auditorium on June 29 and 30 at 7:30pm and July 1 at 2pm. General admission is $15 for adults and $8 for children. Tickets can be purchased at the box office one hour prior to the show.
FOR THE ACTORS
If your little ones are itching to get on stage, it’s not too late to register for the second half of the summer camp season! Children ages 5 through 11 can put on The Pinnochio Show, the beloved tale of an enchanted puppet who just wanted to be a real boy. The camp begins Monday, July 2 and ends Friday, July 27, running Monday-Friday from 9am-12pm. There will be two shows on Saturday, July 28.
Your middle schoolers and high schoolers can join the cast of the colorful, crazy, and utterly whimsical Seussical the Musical. Seussical combines the favorite tales of Dr. Seuss and turns them into an off-the-wall and hilarious stage show. The camp begins Monday, July 2 and ends Friday, July 27, running Monday-Friday from 2-5pm. Performances will be July 27-29.
