On the first Friday of every month, St. Augustine’s art galleries welcome visitors to browse the latest art exhibits and enjoy refreshments and live entertainment at more than 25 participating galleries. For lovers of local art and culture, the First Friday Artwalk is a great way to celebrate both the start of a new month and the end of a long week. Spend your time hopping from gallery to gallery in the downtown area or jump on a complimentary shuttle and check out the galleries on the beach. But wherever you decide to spend your time, here’s what’s new at the November 2, 2018 First Friday Artwalk.

Holiday Gift Bazaar at the Galleries on the Beach

Do a bit of holiday shopping early, have a little wine, a snack and mingle with the artists. There are five galleries on the Island participating in Artwalk. Go to The Gallery Group then mosey on down to WB Tatter Gallery, Simple Gestures, High Tide Gallery, and finish up at The Art Studio at the Beach on the pier.

Kevan Brietinger at Amistad

Sky Hopinka at Crisp-Ellert Art Gallery

Hopinka’s videos have a surreal, otherworldly quality that reinforce the “play between the known and the unknowable,” a conceptual framework that unites much of his work. He employs various techniques to further achieve conceptual interplay, such as layering and superimposing images, using multiple audio sources, and by utilizing both written and spoken texts. The exhibition will include three videos.

Joyce Hutchinson at Butterfield Garage Art Gallery

Joyce is an artist, owner, and instructor of her own private art school for 20 years, as well as a self-published poet, and writer. Her art, focuses on experimenting and creating images that are very diverse but always containing elements of nature pleasing to the eye. Her subject matter varies as widely as her passions; historical decorative designs, to the realism of florals, working in oil, acrylic, watercolor, color pencil, and graphite. The artist talk begins at 6pm.
