On September 30, 1975, an all-female fan club called the Disciples of James Dean meets inside a Woolworth’s five-and-dime store in McCarthy, Texas, to honor the twentieth anniversary of the actor’s death. Now middle-aged women, the fan club were teenagers when Dean filmed Giant two decades ago in nearby Marfa. One of them, an extra in the film, has a child whom she says was conceived with Dean during the shoot. The ladies’ congenial reminiscences mingle with flashbacks to their youth; then the arrival of a stunning-but-familiar stranger sets off a series of confrontations that smash their delusions and expose bitter disappointments. It’s time for some laughs, a little nostalgia, and a lot of drama on the Limelight Theatre stage.
Come Back to the Five and Dime Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean is directed by Matthew Whaley. The cast features Kristin Pidcock (Director of Education at Limelight Theatre), Beth Lambert (Executive Director of Limelight Theatre), Shelli Long, Jennifer Latka, Jennifer Farrow, Dianne Neighmond, Will Gooden, Heather Eggleston, and Shannon Acevedo.
