The St. Augustine Lighthouse & Maritime Museum has been featured by Buzzfeed Unsolved Supernatural, a YouTube channel that has more than 3 million followers. The Buzzfeed team visited the nonprofit Museum this July, with filming beginning at nightfall and continuing into the early morning hours, documenting possible paranormal activity at this historic site which also has been featured recently by the newly-returned Ghost Hunters.

The show’s Executive Producer, Katie LeBlanc, shared some details on the filming:

Q: What was your favorite area during filming at the St. Augustine Lighthouse & Maritime Museum?

A: The lighthouse itself! It’s a beautiful building, and the views from the top are just incredible. Being up there at night felt magical. You really feel the history of the place everywhere you go.

Q: Did you film anywhere else in St. Augustine?

A: Nope! We came just for the Lighthouse! We’d love to come back another time to shoot more – it’s a truly gorgeous and historic place.

Q: Anything different on this location that you have never experienced before?

A: The staff was incredibly helpful and insightful! We never get that kind of in-person knowledgeable support, and it was really beneficial to be able to verify historical facts and accounts with them on the spot. Beyond that, Ryan got a pretty bad scare – so that was not necessarily new – but still surprising!

Q: Any other cool things that happened?

A: I’d say this is one of the episodes I’m most proud of this season – so that’s very cool! We felt incredibly welcomed by the lighthouse staff and may have gotten a welcome from something more – depending on what you believe. I grew up in Florida myself, so I was thrilled to get to visit such a historic place.

Dark of the Moon Ghost Tours are held every Friday and Saturday. “Everything we do at our nonprofit museum saves our maritime past,” said Executive Director Kathy Fleming. “Dark of the Moon Ghost Tours helps fund the Lighthouse Archaeological Maritime Program, enabling us to continue our mission to preserve, present and keep alive the stories of the Nation’s Oldest Port.”
